Dr. Puryear received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1995. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Colorado State University. Dr. Puryear is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, and the Colorado Springs Area Veterinary Society.

He has advanced training in orthopedics and radiology to include ultrasound. Dr. Puryear's special interest is in surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic) particularly TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) for the repair of a torn cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee.
He is one of only a few veterinarians in Colorado Springs who is specially trained and performs TPLO surgery on a routine basis.
In addition, Dr. Puryear is entrusted to treat the El Paso County Sheriffs Department K-9 unit consisting of three beautiful and well trained German Shepherd Dogs (Chase, Ivor, and Justice). Dr. Puryear and his wife Pamela purchased Aaron Animal Clinic in 1996.
In just four years he and his wife turned an outpatient clinic into one of the most well equipped veterinary hospitals in Colorado Springs. They changed the name from Aaron Animal Clinic to Faithful Friends Animal Hospital and built a 4200 sq. Ft. Free standing building as a means to provide optimal veterinary care for their patients.
