Pet Vaccines From Your Colorado Springs Veterinarian

Preventative medicine is one of the most important parts of being a responsible pet owner, and that includes making sure your pet is current on its vaccination schedule each year. At Faithful Friends Animal Hospital, we include regular pet vaccines with every wellness exam we do. Beginning with your pet's first puppy and kitten shots, we'll protect your pet from serious disease through its entire life.

Colorado Springs Veterinarian Talks About Vaccines

Vaccines are medication that helps its own immune system to become stronger against a certain disease. Our veterinarian, Dr. William T. Puryear, will vaccinate your dog against common diseases, beginning in its first few months of life. During your cat's or dog's first year, we'll give it a series of vaccinations designed to stimulate its immune system and create a base immunity that will help it through its life. As your pet reaches adulthood, we'll cut down the shots to annual boosters for most diseases.

We vaccinate all of our patients with both non-core and core vaccines. Every pet gets core vaccines, which protect against serious diseases that spread across the country, such as rabies and distemper. Non-core vaccines, on the other hand, are only administered to pets with a need, based on their lifestyle. For instance, if your pet will stay in any type of boarding facility, it should be immunized against bordetella, which is commonly known as kennel cough, and dogs that live near and run around in woody areas should get vaccinated against Lyme disease.

Vaccines in Our Office

Each veterinary service around the country has to decide which vaccines are most important for their pet patients. Some dangers in the local environment in one part of the country don't even exist in another part. Here at Faithful Friends Animal Hospital, we offer:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Bordetella
  • FeLV
  • Rattlesnake vaccine

The first time you bring your pet into our office for its beginning wellness exam, you'll consult with our veterinarian to determine which vaccines are right for your pet. A lot depends on your local environment, your pet's lifestyle (outdoor or indoor pet) and the likelihood of changing environments like kennels and dog parks. Tell the vet as much as you can about your family lifestyle, this will help him to determine which vaccines are right for your pet.
